After a lifetime working in the heavy machinery and civil engineering industries we retired to Kerikeri in 1997, having moved back home to N.Z. from our last overseas work contract which was 3 years in Fiji where I was engineer in charge of plant and machinery on a major road upgrading project . I also built a replacement 900mm dia. high pressure pipeline up in the highlands inland from Nadi to carry water to the towns of Nadi and Lautoka.. Our princpal recreation is boating and fishing on the East coast of NZs Far north in our 35 foot launch , the use and maintenance of which consumes much of our "free" time . My military service was limited to "Compulsory Military Training " in 1956 as an Armourer in the RNZAF , followed by 9 years on reserve , but never called up . I was on the executive of the Kerikeri RSA. for about 8 years and am still one of the 5 trustees .It was a letter to the editor of the RSA "review" from TWGPP which first made me aware of the programme ,and seeing the effect of giving my friend the photo you sent me of his family member's headstone in the Faenza Italy cemetery has prompted me to take a part in the programme . It is a pity I was not aware of it earlier as we were travelling in Germany ,Flanders , UK. and Ireland in July to Sept 2008 and would have endeavoured to meet you folk had we known. We have 3 adult chidren and only one grandchild .
