This man Died of Wounds on the 26th July 1916, and his records include the declaration for, 6429 Joseph Lovatt , which is signed by his wife Mary Ellen Lovatt on the 6th August 1919, this declaration also shows the name of Richards full blood brother Joseph Lovatt of 8 School Terrace, New Village, Bentley, Doncaster and there’s a note which reads,
“My Husbands real name was Richard, army name Joseph and his Brothers name is Joseph”v
The son of Richard and Ann Elizabeth Lovatt of 5 Upper Normacot Road, Longton, Staffordshire, and husband of Mary Ellen Lovatt (nee Hassall), he was born Longton and enlisted at Pontifract on the 11th May 1900, in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and served in China and India.
On the 19th September 1914 he became part of the British Expeditionary force France, and on the 26th July 1916 he died of wounds in Hospital at Rouen, France.
