Details: 29/08/41 Aged 23 Panel 62. Son of Anthony and Veronica Imelda La Gruta, of St. Kilda, Victoria, Australia. Anthony Cyril Dominica La Gruta's grave is actually at the head of Earnscleuch Water in the Lammermuir Hills, Hunt Law in the Scottish Borders. On the 29 August 1941 his Boulton Paul Defiant plane crashed after taking off from East Fortune airfield. Tony's body was unable to be recovered so on September 6 1951 the people of the local town built a memorial stone on the spot where Tony's body lies. The memorial stone reads:To the memory of Aus 400719 Flt Sgt A.D.C. La Gruta, RAAF, who rests here where he died on active service: 29-8-41. Aged 23 years.
