William John Brooks Pte 12825 9th Btn Royal Dublin Fusiliers was born in the pit village of Quarter, Hamilton, Lanarkshire on 18th April 1893.Coalminer and son of a coalminer Edward Brooks and Margaret Donnelly. No record of a marriage in Scotland. Killed in action 16th August 1917 Paschendaele. No known grave. Commemorated Tyne Cot Memorial and Hamilton (Lanarkshire) War Memorial.We are related to to William through his grandfather, John Donnelly, the brother of our great, great grandmother Sarah Donnelly, wife of James Higgins, the maternal grandparents of our paternal grandmother Elizabeth Young.
